Solect's 2025: The Year That Was
With nature donning its autumnal hues and the year inching toward its final chapters, we pause to reflect on 2025 and the journey we've traveled together.
This year marks Solect's 15th anniversary — 15 years of growth, from 3 visionary founders and their mighty little team to an organization spanning two campuses and a warehouse, carrying forward a legacy of innovation and dedication.
The shifting industry landscape, shaped by major policy changes, posed challenges that tested our resilience. Thanks to our leadership's foresight and the indomitable Solect spirit, we navigated through uncertainty, rediscovered our rhythm, and emerged stronger.
2025 has also been emotional on a personal note, with our dear Jim, whose leadership as CFO guided Solect since its inception, embarking on his next adventure. His impact will be felt for years to come.
Amid all this, it was a joy to come together as a team and celebrate our 15th year at The View Boston — an evening dazzling with the city's lights, an apt reflection of the energy, soul, and spirit of Solect itself.

Solar Metrics Dashboard
Tracking Our Success — Data as of Nov 4, 2025
Our service portfolio has officially surpassed 1,000,000 MWh — 1 Terawatt-hour — of lifetime solar generation.
Which is equivalent to:
Powering 1,203 homes for an entire year
Avoiding over 1 million gallons of gasoline consumed
We're also on track to achieve 90% of our $7.5 million Services goal, representing a 17% increase from last year. We're exceeding revenue targets across both our service agreement and T&M (Break-Fix) business lines. Additionally, we're in the final stages of implementing Green Power Monitoring (GPM) — an industry-leading system with automatic weather-adjusted performance data.

Workforce, Diversity & Customer Experience
👥 Workforce Development
Solect is translating DEI from principle to practice through workforce development. Our partnership with Framingham State, PETM 2025, supported 11 high school scholars (70% BIPOC, 55% female) with 150+ training hours, and our college internship pipeline retained three of four students for temporary assignments.
🌈 Supplier Diversity
Solect is building an MWBA database and tracking baseline spend and growth so more local, diverse businesses participate in the clean-energy economy alongside us. In 2025, MWBE-certified firms we partnered with include EAH Engineering ($43,750) and Premier Power EC ($252,470).
⭐ Customer Experience
We launched automated project-stage email updates and a post-PTO survey to capture process, communication, and quality feedback — backed by engagement, efficiency, and impact metrics and an escalation framework for transparent, inclusive feedback loops.
Navigating the Evolving Solar Landscape
Federal Policy Update
On July 3, Congress passed H.R. 1 (Public Law 119-21), repealing federal tax credits for solar and wind projects. The U.S. Treasury has allowed a phase-out period: projects that begin construction before July 4, 2026 have four years to be completed, and those starting after must be in service by December 31, 2027.
State Incentives
Massachusetts and Rhode Island continue to offer some of the strongest solar incentives in the country, especially for rooftop systems under 1 MW — a core strength of Solect.
The Massachusetts SMART 3.0 Program took effect September 12 and provides significant incentives for commercial solar and storage. Behind-the-meter projects up to 250 kW AC now have no annual capacity cap and remain open year-round. A big thank-you to our Regulatory team for submitting 141 applications in the first window on October 15.
Interconnection Progress
Massachusetts is witnessing significant progress on the interconnection front. The Interconnection Implementation Review Group (IIRG), with representation from Solect's Andrew Hickok, has agreed on changes to help commercial projects receive ISAs faster.
For projects in Group Study areas, utilities will now pre-screen and approve when capacity is available instead of waiting for full Group Study results. This is expected to accelerate approvals significantly.
Four incredible interns. One lasting mark.
Last summer, four interns joined Solect and left a lasting mark. Let's celebrate their journeys.
"Building my own photography business is a personal achievement I'm incredibly proud of."
"A professional goal on my bucket list is to start a solar company and a greenhouse farm in Africa."
"One of my professional goals is to become a mentor and pay it forward."
"A rising junior at WPI, Julian studies Chemical Engineering and aspires to work in energy production."
A Trip to Logan's Gap Wind Farm
Our interns explored the wind farm's impact on energy generation and had the opportunity to step inside a wind turbine. Beyond the technical insights, the visit was a valuable chance to connect with fellow interns from Pattern, share experiences, and build relationships across the renewable energy space.
